Bacterial or viral infections of the middle ear, eardrum, or ear canal are often caused by other illnesses, such as colds, flu, or allergies. Additionally, ear pain can result from direct injury to the ear, atmospheric pressure changes that occur during flight or scuba diving, or moisture left in the ear after swimming (swimmer’s ear). Therefore, a visit to UrgentWay is advised to get diagnosed and ear treatment for any ear infections.

At the UrgentWay the following ear treatments are usually recommended:

  • Hot compresses
  • Over-the-counter pain medications
  • Prescription ear drops
  • Antibiotics (only for bacterial ear infections)

During your visit, if there is a buildup of ear wax will, it will be eliminated using one of the following options:

A spoon designed specifically for this purpose, used mainly for stubborn wax, not too deep within the auditory channel.

An ear irrigation syringe, designed to reach deeper into the auditory channel with moderate pressure.

In case of extremely stubborn and hard impacted wax, ear drops to soften the wax will be prescribed before removal.

Although it is very safe when performed by medical professionals, our ears are incredibly delicate. Because of that, UrgentWay takes a conservative and careful approach when irrigating your ears.

Frequently Asked Questions

Throughout The Year I Have An Accumulation Of Ear Wax. Is It Safe For Me To Have This I Repeat Procedure Several Times?

Yes! Although we do not recommend frequent irrigation (more than twice a year), it is extremely common for people to need help throughout the year. Our providers always perform an extensive examination to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure and also the devise a plan to ensure that we keep irritation in the auditory channel and the ear drum to the minimum.

If I Suspect That I Have An Accumulation Of Ear Wax, But Do Not Suffer Any Hearing Loss, Should I Seek Help?

Absolutely! The best thing you can do for your ears is to prevent the ear wax from developing to the point of having temporary hearing loss. Many times, it is very difficult for you to clean your ears because you cannot see inside and with precision and gently eliminate the wax. And often Q-Tips tend to make matters worse instead of improving. Therefore, having our healthcare providers clean your ears for you is definitely something you should consider.

Should I Try To Remove The Wax On The Outside Of My Ears Before My Appointment?

In general terms, it is recommended that you leave your ears only before your appointment. This gives our provider a good idea of what is happening while minimizing the potential of any trauma to your ears.
